    Welcome to the  ICHEP08 Guest Program.  We hope that you will enjoy your stay in the City of Brotherly Love.

    Philadelphia offers an abundance of historical and cultural activities for you to explore.  In addition to the many opportunities available directly and through commmercial tour program providers,  ICHEP08 has arranged a number of small group tours for guests of the conference.  If you are interested in one or more of the tours, please register by e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it giving your complete name as well as the name(s) of the tour(s) you wish to take.  You will receive registration confirmation by e-mail.  Payment by cash, check, or credit card is due at the Guest Program registration desk when you arrive in Philadelphia.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Guest Program by e-mail.

                                                 Highlights of the University of Pennsylvania Museum                                                                      "Since its founding in 1887 the Penn Museum has been an
                                                 international leader in archaeological and anthropological
                                                 research" and "has one of the most distinguished archaeological
                                                 collections in the world

                                                  Penn Museum is a short walk from Houston Hall                                                 

                                                  Tour length: one hour

                                                   Independence Vistitors' Center presents an overview
                                                   of Philadelphia attractions. Same as Wed.

                           10:00am         TASTE OF PHILLY TOUR/READING TERMINAL MARKET
                                                  For over 100 years, this indoor market has been a major 
                                                  supplier of Philadelphians' food.  A light hearted way to learn 
                                                  about Philly's most famous foods and the history of the market 
                                                  while viewing the wares of over 80 vendors.


                                                  Tour meets at the Reading Terminal Market.
                                                  Tour length: 75 minutes        Cost: $14.00 per person


                            3:00pm          INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ART TOUR
                                                 This small museum's current exhibits include:
                                                  Mike's World, the first major retrospective of
                                                  internationally renowned performance/video/installation                                                               artist Michael Smith; a site specific installation
                                                  by Trenton Doyle; and an exhibition of the work of Trish
                                                  Donnelly including sculpture, drawings, photographs,
                                                  and painting.

                                                  ICA is located at the edge of the Penn campus, a few blocks
                                                  from Houston Hall.

Fri.  8/01                11:00am   MUSEUM TOUR/PENN MUSEUM
                                                Etruscan and Roman Worlds
                                                Not your standard classics exhibit.  This tour provides a most
                                                unusual look at the interactions of two competing cultures on
                                                the Italian peninsula in ancient times.  Participants may continue
                                                to visit other galleries at the close of the tour.
                                                Penn Museum is a short walk from Houston Hall.


                                                Tour length: one hour    Cost: $10.00 includes museum admission



                                2:30pm     GARDEN TOUR/MORRIS ARBORETUM
                                                 This well known example of a Victorian eclectic garden is the
                                                 official arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is
                                                 listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The tour will
                                                 focus on the Japanese elements of the arboretum's collection of
                                                 over 13,000 labeled specimens.


                                                 Shoes and clothing should be weather appropriate for this
                                                 walking tour. Van leaves Penn campus at 1:30 pm.

                                                                                            transportation and admission

                               8:00pm    ICHEP08 CONCERT:    PROJECT

                                            "This dynamic young group blurs the lines of classical music"  with 
                                             a sound best described as" a fusion of jazz, hip-hop, and world 
                                             music balanced out by a sincere allegiance to the groups classical roots."

                           9:30            PRINCETON TOUR
                                              The tour begins at Grounds for Sculpture, a spectacular 35 acre
                                              public sculpture park. There is a $10.00 admission fee.  Lunch is
                                              on your own either at Rats, a whimsical, but casually elegant 
                                              restaurant serving gourmet fare, or at the Cafe, which serves
                                              simple sandwiches and salads buffet style. The tour concludes 
                                              with a walk/drive around the grounds of the Institute for 
                                              Advanced Study and the Princeton University campus.

Sun. 8/03           6:30pm         RECEPTION:   PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART
                                                PMA is one of the largest art museums in the United States.  
                                                Guests will have an opportunity to view Thomas Eakins' "The  
                                                Gross Clinic" which returns home to Philadelphia on August 2.
                                                Guests are also invited to vies the current contemporary art  
                                                exhibit, "Rhythms of India: The Art of Nandalal Bose."  Bose 
                                                has been called  the"father of Indian Modernism" and "one of 
                                                the patriarchs of India's cultural revival."
